Leadership

Sydney Griffin leadership

Welcome to my leadership page! My Sydney Griffin leadership journey in Yakima, WA, is about serving others through faith, community action, and personal growth. From founding NINO Ministry in 2010 to launching the Angels Gate Foundation in 2022, my path has been shaped by a spiritual calling and a commitment to empowerment. This isn’t about promoting organizations—it’s about sharing how my leadership began, the values that guide me, the challenges I’ve faced, and where I’m headed, hoping to inspire you to find your own strength. Learn more about my full background on the Home page

My Leadership Journey

My Sydney Griffin leadership story started during one of the toughest periods of my life. Losing my construction business and facing a divorce in the 2000s led me to Christianity, where I found solace and purpose. This turning point sparked my desire to lead others, much like my carpentry work taught me to build with precision. In 2010, with director Bill Lukens, I founded NINO Ministry in Yakima, creating a space for spiritual growth through small group Bible studies. By 2022, I launched the Angels Gate Foundation to address homelessness and poverty, blending faith with practical advocacy. My Finnish heritage—rooted in my grandfather’s 1938 immigration—and decades in trades shape my leadership, emphasizing resilience and service.

My Current Focus

Today, my Sydney Griffin leadership revolves around NINO Ministry and the Angels Gate Foundation, complementing each other to build faith-rooted communities in Yakima. NINO fosters spiritual transformation through Bible study series, while Angels Gate extends this into activism with programs like counseling and food drives. These efforts align with my other passions, like photography and marine work. Here are the core values guiding my work:

  • Empathy and Spiritual Leadership: I prioritize understanding others’ needs while mentoring to deepen faith.

  • Integrity and Administrative Excellence: Honesty and careful planning ensure meaningful impact.

  • Inclusivity and Building Community: I create welcoming spaces, connecting people through outreach.

  • Collaboration and Service/Outreach: Partnering with locals and nonprofits extends our impact.

  • Resilience and Prayer/Intercession: Faith helps me navigate challenges, with prayer offering support.

  • Education and Discipleship/Mentorship: Equipping others fosters self-sufficiency and leadership.

  • Innovation and Creativity: Digital tools and arts keep efforts engaging, like my photography.

  • Leadership and Accountability: Leading by example ensures measurable impact.

  • Advocacy and Counseling/Support: I address crises with compassion, supporting community needs.

  • Empowerment and Stewardship: Encouraging action and caring for resources promotes sustainability.

  • Financial Support and Giving Back: Creative fundraising sustains our mission.

Key activities include NINO’s 52-week Bible study series (e.g., His Protection, Spiritual Awareness) and Angels Gate’s workshops on life skills, outreach like food drives, and advocacy for social justice, detailed in my accomplishments.

Challenges Overcome

My leadership journey hasn’t been without hurdles. Balancing NINO and Angels Gate with my carpentry and marine work feels like juggling college and a full-time job. Low-budget operations required creative resource allocation, like relying on donations, similar to my early days in S.A. Griffin Construction. These challenges strengthened my resilience, rooted in faith and my Finnish heritage, as I learned to lead through collaboration.

Where I’m Going

Looking ahead, I’m excited to finish the growth series on https://ninoministry.org/grow/, including the upcoming Growing Healthy with the Spirit—a four-part exploration of Spiritual Health (“How is your Spiritual Health?”), Financial Health (“Are your Finances Healthy?”), Physical Health (“Are you Physically Fit?”), and Relational Health (“How are your Relationships?”). This will expand online resources for holistic well-being through faith.

As a general contractor, I plan to provide jobs for the less fortunate, helping people help themselves by creating opportunities in trades and community projects. Ultimately, I aim to grow both NINO and Angels Gate into broader platforms for empowerment, mentoring emerging leaders, and advocating for systemic change in Yakima and beyond. In 10 years, I hope to see a ripple effect where those I’ve supported are leading their own initiatives, all rooted in faith and community.
